Why are my products named as they are?
I have always been fascinated by literature, stories, mythology, and religious texts from every single area of our history. There's so much to learn from it all and I absolutely have, in so many ways. Much of what I do is influenced by books, myths, and the creativity that has come to be of great inspiration along my journey. Naming my products has been one of those instances where I have been truly inspired.
When I first started working with Plantago Major and Plantain Lanceolata, it was simply named 'the green salve' or 'plantain salve'.
Two of my favorite books as a child was Alice in Wonderland and Alice Through The Looking Glass. She eats the cake labeled 'Eat Me' and grows or shrinks. She wanders into the flower beds and they all talk to her. That, for me, was the best part ever and even in the Disney version I was captivated by all of the beautiful talking flowers. I dare say I walk into my gardens remembering from my childhood the way they speak from the book and how to speak to them without angering them :D It sounds funny but it sort of stuck with me in the best ways. Respectfully I speak to the plants, the flowers, the wild healers and the trees. I don't speak about them or past them but directly to them.
When I named the original Salve 'Heal Me' it was truly inspired by dear Alice and her adventures but there's so much more to this.
Our thoughts become our reality.
When we injure ourselves the last thing we're saying in our heads or aloud is something positive. We're usually griping, complaining, wincing in pain or irritation. To change this mindset, to create a more positive thought pattern, 'Heal Me' is a great affirmation as we apply the salve to our wounds, our bites, out scratches and irritations. The name is inspired by the magic of the idea of the cakes Alice grew and shrunk from while being wholly inspired by the real living, vials of liquid with the inscription 'Drink Me' labeled on them, talking flowers in the gardens of Wonderland.
Inspired by, not named for.
As I have grown my business, I felt the need to keep with this inspiration.
I created something I had initially named 'Deep Green Rub' but was never satisfied with that name and so, last year I changed it to 'Mend Me'. Again, the intentions we create for we use it is set and aides in the process of truly mending ourselves. The healers used within the Rub are exceptional, adding the power of intention amplifies this.
Then I continued with my herbal tinctures 'Rest & Calm Me' and 'Nourish Me'. Again, before administering, we have set intentions instead of negative reinforcement of our suffering. to some these ideas sound a little half cracked and that's fine! The healers work and their names don't need to be analyzed but for those who have asked me 'why', this post is for them.
I then created my whipped skin cream and named it 'Hydrate Me' and Another to be called "Drink Me' Skin Quencher. I almost chose 'Moisturize Me' but I wasn't trying to go the way of Dr. Who, I was Alice in my own Wonderland and wanted to keep it that way.
I kept that idea and intention going with the bath tea line that will expand as I go. 'Clear and Cleanse Me' Spiritual Bath Tea and 'Ritually Pamper Me'.
Let's not forget this season's top seller: 'Revive & Refresh Me' Dandelion Skin Butter!
My newest elixir is named 'Breathe & Support Me'.
In the name, we find the healing, in the plant we know it to be true. Combined intentions go far.
There will be more of these creations coming from my hearth in the future, both near and far so stay tuned.
And to further bless my ways that I walk this world and how my mind works at creating, I feel these words do suit it all very well:
“You’re mad, bonkers, completely off your head. But I’ll tell you a secret. All the best people are.”
