Not everyone will take a person at their word. I am not one of those people. I will take you at your word until I see a reason not to. Integrity in what you speak seems to be lacking these days and I'm not sure why. Perhaps it's a sign of the times. Perhaps so many of us are used to just speaking without actions, that we don't even see what we're doing. Whatever it is, it's annoying and harmful to those who do not 'say what they mean and mean what they say' as well as the people they attempt to work with.
I've learned many a time in life, that if you want something done, you have to do it yourself. If you cannot do it yourself you must be very carefully in how you delegate.
Some don't take the idea of how important it is to have integrity in their words and actions to heart. Many people have wonderful intentions and yet absolutely no follow through. For the rest of us, this is incredibly frustrating so I came up with some ground rules. Laugh, by all means, but I need to set some boundaries, maybe you do too.
I'm not perfect and I will never claim to be. I am however, thoughtful of my words and my actions and how they match up. To me these things matter and serve to show what type of person I am. Of course I've had to cancel plans because something has come up in our lives. This is something everyone has had to deal with at one point or another. It is not, however, the norm of my behavior, nor is it how I show respect for others or how I value my own time and theirs.
When it's a pattern of behavior it's a sign of something much worse than a sudden change of plans. It's a sign of being flighty, flaky and unreliable. Most people cannot work with someone they cannot depend on and so we really need to ask ourselves some hard questions.
My only question now is, how do I recognize the flighty ones from the ones with words that match their actions? Live and learn I suppose! Only so many chances can be given before one sees that it's a pattern and not an simple mistake.
